Hello earthlings!
I specifically left out ETs because I think they have better things to do than solve my crosswords. Here is the first midi I finished constructing without metaphorically smashing my computer in frustration. It's a themeless and I am pretty satisfied with myself. Pat on the back, Priya!
Tricky Clues
1D/6D: The "" in the clue asks the solvers to finish a quote, which in this case is Don McLean's masterpiece, AMERICAN PIE. The other span entry is again a tribute to the same song, with a small tweak, as indicated by the contractions ole' and drinkin' that asks us to contract the "and" in the lyric similarly, making it WHISKEY 'N' RYE.
29A: NEO-pronouns are typically gender neutral and give a fresh breath of air to the extremely gendered grammar of the English language. You can read more about them here.
30A: I admit, this was a bit of filler crossword glue that I was forced to include in the puzzle because hours of brainstorming led me nowhere, and I was today years old when I got to know that TOPI is an African antelope.
That's all folks!
